Wacken Open Air 2023 – from story and sold-out records to great line-up

2023.06.23 12:25, Birutė Surinėnaitė

Last year Wacken Open Air festival, which broke through after a two-year forced quarantine break, was not only distinguished by a record number of 83,400 spectators. WOA 2023 tickets sold out in record time – just 6 hours, all 80,000! Compared to previous years, 2023 pre-sale was started earlier – already on Sunday, 08/07/2022, at 8PM. And just after a quarter of a day, the organizers announced that the 32nd Wacken Open Air is sold-out!WOA23_Wallpaper_Schiff-Poster_16zu9_221205-01

However, this is not from the realm of fiction. The world’s largest metal music festival has been reaping laurels for several years. It has also been named the best festival of the year and has received other solid accolades over the years. So it is not surprising that people from all over the world rush to this “holy land”. Let’s just look at this year’s list of participants – it is more than impressive.

Looking back to WOA history, the almost unreal progress of the festival is surprising. Starting with a small space, one stage and a few bands, since the 1990s WOA has grown to a festival of impressive scale and prominence. This is a real success story.

Our local community also is a part of WOA for years. Reports starting from 2002 (most in native language), review of book “We The People Of Wacken“, contribution to Wacken stories – this is only few examples of Lithuanian footprints in this Metal Event of year.

So we are definitely looking forward to WOA 2023, where an experienced Lithuanian crew of Wacken ready to meet not only our winners of this year’s Wacken Metal Battle , but also compatriots preparing for Wacken for the first time. See you, rain or shine!
